BUCCANEERS & BONES

Season 4

BUCCANEERS & BONES, SEASON 4

In September of 2012, I had the great privilege of meeting and fishing with Liam Neeson at Deep Water Caye, Bahamas, while he was filming a few episodes of Season 2 of Buccaneers and Bones.  We struck up a quick friendship and every afternoon we would sip his favorite Pinot from Oregon and would practice his on casting and double hauls.  (He mostly fished upstate NY in small streams, a 4wt and rarely any wind).   It was in the midst of these “lessons”, that the producers of the show asked if I had ever thought about doing TV “fishing” work.

Well, a screen test was done right there at DWC, then a few world records were caught over the next few months in conjunction with partnering with the great research and conservation group, Bonefish Tarpon Trust (BTT), legitimizing my fly fishing passions and abilities all that earned me a spot on Season 4 of Bucs and Bones, filmed in one of my favorite spots, San Pedro, Belize.

That week in May 2013 is one I will never forget.  Teaming up with a spectacular cast and crew, we had a blast at the El Pescador Lodge fishing waters I had fished for years, but now in the company of greatness.

My memories abound from that trip:

• Lefty Kreh cackling and telling his one liner jokes and forever working on trying to improve my cast,
• Tom Brokaw with him infamous voice, sharing stories of his family and adventures.  (Politics became a hot topic a few of the eves around the dinner table).
• Yvon Chouinard and I discussing vast opposite opinions on religion and politics on the flats by day and sharing Mojitos by night.
• Huey Lewis, the constant entertainer and musician, serenading me on the skiff’s bow, playing his harmonica around the bar in the evenings keeping us all laughing and singing.  There might have been some dancing too…
• Bill Klynmy dancing, snorkel and shore lunch partner.  He is a great master of ceremonies and ball of energy that kept us all in stitches.
• Will Benson one of the best of the best in our generations of anglers and guides.  From tarpon to permit, he knows his stuff and was gracious to share his advice and knowledge every moment of the way.
• Lori Ann Murphy, my sweet “Belizean” sister and I kayaking our way across the lagoon amidst strong winds and waves.  Very few know those back flats like LA.
